HISTORY OF THE HOTEL
Opened in 1977, the Kazakhstan Hotel became one of the key architectural projects of its time and a symbol of Almaty, Kazakhstan, and the entire Central Asian region. Designed by architects Yuri Ratushny, Leonid Ukhobotov, and their team, the hotel combined the aesthetics of late modernism with engineering audacity.
The high-rise building was designed to withstand a magnitude 9 earthquake, making it a unique achievement of Soviet engineering. Its elliptical silhouette and golden crown made the hotel a recognizable landmark not only for the city but for the country as well.
Thanks to its location and scale, the hotel has remained an important venue for business, cultural and social events for decades.
